This original mixed media painting on canvas is a part of my Mexican Folk Art Series and is an experiment with color and pattern.
The design is laid out in a grid and each square is a repeating color. A central grid of four colors is bordered by bright flowers.
Like Mexican folk art, my design incorporates bright colors and animals but in this case with a more contemporary feel.
It features red and green geckos, red and blue cats, purple and red geckos, pink and green birds, orange and blue dogs and a multi-color background.
I first drew out the animal patterns on old Manila folders and cut other the shapes.
Then I traced and painted them onto the canvas. Next came blocking out the patterns with acrylic paint, then tracing around them with marker. I added additional lines to fill in.
The signed original is 18" x 18" and is on gallery wrapped canvas.
